La Femme Belge
(Belgium)

Sam Coenegrachts (guitar and vocals), Frederic Evrard (rhythm guitar and backing vocals), Geert Van der Hallen (rhythm guitar and backing vocals), Rik Sturtewagen (violin and backing vocals) and Sebastiaan Gommeren (double bass).
Four guys from Antwerp and one from Ghent are paying a tribute to Belgian women. With the help of a violin, a double bass, three guitars and a powerful voice, they manage to create a gentle, but nevertheless bestial, universe, resulting in a true blend of the explosive energy of gipsy jazz with the lyrical bluntness of the great chansonniers. One can hear the souls of Django Reinhardt, Stéphane Grappelli, Satchmo, Tom Waits and Jacques Brel through their versions of the classic repertoire and their own compositions. In their own words: “‘Django trippin’ through America smokin’ marihuana from Chicago to Tijuana.”

La Femme Belge is performing on stage with an apocalyptic intensity, on the edge between chaos and beauty, a fascinating experience for the audience.
